THE BAZTAN VALLEY

Nestled in the Pyrenees, the Valley of Baztan constitutes the most extensive municipal area of Navarre , with a surface area of 374 km2.
Forests, meadows, crops and flowers are plentiful in this valley, which is rich in traditions and culture with a deeply-rooted folklore, exquisite cuisine and the architecture in its towns and villages combines stately homes with more normal houses.
This municipal area is formed by 15 towns and villages and the capital is Elizondo. The administrative organization of this area is the responsibility of the “Junta General” (regional committee).
The towns and villages of Baztan are mainly located in low lands and are connected by meadows and fields of crops. This has led to a countryside dotted with numerous farmhouses, with a Cantabrian climate with mild winters and cool summers.
